March has been a strong month for Real Madrid and Y3.
At the start, we saw the Y3 and Real Madrid travel collection, a streetwear-inspired collaboration featuring Jude Bellingham and Zidane as the face of the campaign.
Once again, Yohji Yamamoto’s distinct perspective was brought to one of the sporting world’s most decorated clubs, with a seven-piece travel collection.
Inspired by the signature monochromatic colour palette of both Real and Y3, and bringing the art of tailoring and athletic wear together. The collection included a short sleeve polo, a long sleeve polo, a pair of shorts, a pair of track pants, a track top, a coach jacket, and a premium faux leather jacket – each made with soft sporting fabrics and finished with details such as Yohji Yamamoto’s handwritten signature script wordmark and the Real Madrid crest.
The travel collection campaign was shot by the talented London-based photographer Gabriel Moses and it’s a great example of today’s approach to promoting sportswear. The fashion brand collaborations have not only brought a new area in sportswear for football clubs but thankfully, the aesthetic visions of art and fashion photographers have come with it, making the product and campaigns more appealing to people beyond the diehard fans of each club.
Roll on to this week and the club have announced their Matchwear Collection.
At the heart of this premium range lies a fusion of elegance and tradition, with a distinctive rose motif taking centre stage. Inspired by the early days of the collaboration between Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto.
The collection features a striking purple 4th kit for both the Real Madrid Men’s and Women’s teams. This kit is not only stylish but also pays homage to Real Madrid's identity, with purple being a significant colour within the club’s DNA.
Y-3 has also curated a selection of standout fanwear items, including a T-shirt, hoodie, crossbody bag, cap, and scarf, allowing fans to showcase their support in style.
The collaboration doesn't just end with apparel. Y-3 and adidas are introducing a special edition Predator boot and Goalkeeper gloves. As far as football boots go, these are a work of art.
Gabriel Moses was also responsible for the Matchwear photography.
The Y-3 for Real Madrid Matchwear Collection is available now. You can find it online at adidas.com/y-3, on CONFIRMED, in-store, Real Madrid Official Stores, and through select retailers.
